Philippines Advances Telecom with UP Open RAN Laboratory Integration by Ark One & VIAVI
Pioneering Telecom Innovation in the Philippines

On January 15, 2025, Ark One Solutions joined the soft launch of the UP Open RAN Lab with VIAVI. Moreover, the lab uses VIAVIโ€™s VALORโ„ข system to advance secure, connected, and innovative telecom networks nationwide. Additionally, the project is funded by USAID through the BEACON program and run by Nathan Associates together with UP EEEI and AORA. Therefore, this partnership shows how universities, government, and companies can work together to improve telecom innovation effectively. In addition, the lab provides hands-on experience for students, engineers, and industry experts, building practical telecom skills.

Strengthening the Digital Core

The lab follows the VALOR Blueprint to test Open RAN networks reliably and affordably for all users. It also increases access to telecom systems and uses a hybrid Lab-as-a-Service (LaaS) model for flexible testing. As a result, Dr. Peter Sy emphasized that the lab is a major breakthrough achieved through teamwork between universities, government, and international partners. Furthermore, leaders from DICT, UP Diliman, USAID, the Embassy of Japan, Globe Telecom, and Smart Communications all supported the launch. Additionally, Ark One served as the Systems Integrator, ensuring smooth deployment and setup of all lab components. Meanwhile, experts from VIAVI demonstrated the labโ€™s capabilities, while Dr. Jaybie De Guzman shared plans for training and operations.

Empowering the Future of Connectivity

The unveiling of the UP Open RAN Lab signage was led by top officials from UP, DICT, PhilSA, and USAID. Consequently, by May 2025, stakeholders eagerly awaited the grand launch, marking a new era of telecom research, learning, and innovation. In addition, the lab helps build a skilled workforce while supporting local telecom research and development. Therefore, Ark One continues to enable digital transformation, providing full system integration and empowering growth in telecom.
